What Is The Quarantine Period For Gastric Flu?

I have had vomiting and diarrhea for a couple of days but for several weeks prior to this had been feeling very clammy, sweating a lot and quite weak, although I also have fibromyalgia so often do feel very week and fatigued. Had my first flu jab about a week and a half ago - and felt ravenous for food but then did not feel like putting it in my mouth for several weeks also before the vomiting and diarrhea began. Haven t vomitted today so far and no diarrhea have eaten dry toast with a little apple sauce 2 already today (now 1.30pm) and cup of tea with very little milk and no sugar +small glasses of filtered water. I feel as though I could eat for England but know I would be very upset at the sight of food. Work for NHS (clerical) and although I have had much sick leave already this year really don t feel able to go into tomorrow till end of week. If this is gastric flu when should I return to work to prevent infecting others.

Hello,

Most common cause of stomach flu is Norovirus.

It has an incubation period of about 12 to 48 hours, and can cause the person to be contagious during the incubation period and for as long as they shed virus (usually about three days after symptoms stop but sometimes up to two weeks).

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi
