What Is The Procedure For Cutting The Sciatic Nerve To The Leg?

A student of mine is due to have her sciatic nerve cut as a last ditch atempt to relieve her from pain in her leg (she encountered some unidentified parasite or insect bite in Venezuela last year and has no movement in her leg). Is there a general procedure for cutting the sciatic nerve to the leg (knee region) and is she likely to encounter any pain during/after the surgery. many thanks, Jeremy

Hi,

This mode is only followed if other methods of relieving pain are not working or giving relief. Also, this may be related to other complication as well which will be informed to the patient before giving any treatment.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Sushil Vijay, Orthopedic Surgeon
