What Is The Meaning Of Bacterial Flora Of Mixed Bacilli Shown On Stool Test Of A Child?

Hi Dr Santosh, My 2 year old daughter is feeling uneasiness for last 2-3 days. First we thought its due to extreme cold conditions. But as it continued we got the stool test conducted. Report is as follows: colour: Yellow. Consistency: Semisoft. Reaction: Acidic, Blood: Absent, Mucus: Absent
Microscopic Examination
Ova: Absent, Cyst: Absent, Red Cells: 4-6/ HPF, Pus Cells: 20-25/HPF, Macrophages: Absent, Parasites: Absent.
Bacterial Flora of mixed Bacilli.
Does it mean that infection is there and if yes how severe is it and what are the remedies for it.
Regards,

Hi,
Thanks for writing your query.

After reading your post, it seems that your daughter is having bacterial infection of the gastrointestinal tract and needs medical management.

A culture/sensitivity of stool sample will help in knowing the appropriate antibiotic for the infection.

You should get her examined clinically. She should be given an antibiotic along with antiamoebic under medical supervision only.
A prebiotic will have added benefit.

She should be given light home made foods prepared under hygienic conditions.
Care should be taken to maintain her hydration.

I hope this is helpful to you.
Thanks.
