Hi, I am so sorry to hear about your mother s diagnosis. The gall bladder (GB) stores bile and empties it into the bile duct through the cystic duct. Stones form in the GB most of the times and is seen as an incidental finding in most USG scans of the abdomen. in most people these stones do not cause any problems and so do not need any treatment. But unfortunately for some it causes infection and inflammation in the GB, necessitating surgery to remove the GB. In your mother s case, the stone is blocking the cystic duct of the GB, causing distension of the GB and I am sure pain and fever as well. Since the wall thickness is normal, inflammation has not set in yet, but given that your mother is a diabetic, she is at a very high risk to develop it. So I would suggest you seek surgical help at the earliest and proceed with a laparoscopic Cholecystectomy (removal of GB). It can be safely done at most surgical centers and is a routing procedure now-a-days. Hope this helped and hope your mother starts to feel better.
