What Is The Cause Of Pelvic Pain?

I have had about 1 1/2 months of extreme pelvic pain, some distension, nausea/vomitting and have had a recent CT which showed a normal appendix and intestines, but showed small volume pelvic ascites, and bilateral hypodense adnexal lesions. I see a new OB/GYN doc next week - what further testing would you recommend? What would you be trying to rule out?

Hi,

According to your description there is a possibility of bilateral adnexal masses associated with the minimal pelvic collection, leading to symptoms like fever pelvic pain and nausea and vomiting. The masses could be:
* Bilateral ovarian cysts sometimes with torsion
* Bilateral tubal ovarian masses
* Benign tumors like dermoid cysts, endometriotic cysts, etc.
* Rarely ovarian malignancies.

By clinical examination and with the help of tumor markers like CA 125 levels, CEA levels, the possible nature of the lesion can be identified and treatment can be planned accordingly.
