What Is Seafood Allergy ? How Can It Be Prevented ?

I had food poisoning from undercooked fish 1 1/2 ago followed by a severe case of food poisoning 2 months later from scallops. Since then, more often than not, I get very nauseous with a short after eating seafood but it is not consistent. I stayed away from seafood for about 6 months (doc said it could take up to 6 months for system to full recovery). I still get very nauseous at times but it is inconsistent. I ve had shrimp, salmon and sole in the last 10 days with no problems. I had Flounder last night and got very sick again. White fish does seems to be the worst for me. (Undercooked fish is not the issue any more!) Any ideas? Don t want to stop eating seafood as everyone tells me

You could be allergic to the proteins in certain fish which is best avoided. You can try prawns which may not give you the same reaction. Stay away from shrimps and lobsters as they could result in anaphylaxis as well. It is understood that certain kinds of food poisoning are rampant among fish from salt waters which can lead to bloody diarrhoea as well as can be fatal. Fresh water fish may be less harmful. If you experience shortness of breath and feeling of the throat closing p it could be anaphylactic reaction for which you will need Epinephrine to prevent fatality. Consult your Doctor about the chance of you having this reaction as well and be well prepared.
