What Is Non Episiotomy?

Thank you for responding. I am a clinical researcher with pediatric training and i am presently teaching nurses in my district hospital to conduct basic research. A midwife has suggested to look at reasons associated with non episiotomy in primiparous women at delivery. Literature in my country (Papua New Guinea) on this subject is limited and i need leads to authors on this subject. I can be reached by email on YYYY@YYYY

Thank you for the question.

The question that they are asking is:

"In women having a vaginal birth with their first child, what factors are associated with NOT using an episiotomy."

An episiotomy is a cut at the back of the vagina sometimes used to expedite the birth or to make more room when forceps or vacuum are used. This would have to be a retrospective chart review. This will be difficult to sort out because there are so many factors that are involved in each separate delivery.

Good luck,
Dr. Tim
