What Is Cholesterol ?

I am only 17 and i cant sleep at night coz my arm goes numb n tikly,my heart hurts and i sometimes have a hard time breathing.. what is cholesterol ? how does it happen? how do you get rid of it? please answer all you know about this question.. my doctor said mine is high is this bad??? help me please!

there is two types of cholesterol LDL (Low density lipoprotein) and HDL (High density lipoprotein) the hld is good but the ldl is bad and need to be lowerd go here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Low_density_lipoprotein
