What Is Causing My Throat And Lungs Pain?

Hi Im 25 years old. I have had throat pain for nearly a year, but was travelling so didnt see an ENT. I was a smoker for about 8 years, but stopped 4 months ago. The pain is only on one side of my throat near the bottom of my neck. I have had a wisdom tooth taken out as I thought it might have been an impacted tooth causing the pain, but it still hurts. I also sometimes get a pain in my lung. I clear my throat many times a day and must spit often. Do you know what this might be? Thanks for your help

Hi,

The commonest causes of pain in throat on one side and in chest, lung as you have mentioned can be as follows:
Smoking causing changes in lower part of throat that is pharynx causing mucus secretion and thus the need to clear the throat. This in turn can cause ulcer like changes due to excessive straining caused by excessive clearing of the throat.
Changes in muscle causing edema, or strain on the bones forming the neck in the front part cause pain.
Muscle straining, may be due to faulty posture of neck due to over work with computers or studies.
This can be diagnosed by the following ways:
Clinical examination by a Doctor, preferably an ENT Surgeon.
CT scan of Neck.
Endoscopy of the pharynx and esophagus is a must, biopsy if needed.
Stop smoking.
Prescription based medications.
Change of habits, posture of neck and so on.
Avoid all the instigating and enhancing factors.
All these can help you a lot.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
