What General Medicines An Epilepsy Patient Should Avoid?

Respected doctor, I am a female with mild controlled epilepsy, aged 30. I got fits at the age of two and then I haven't got till date. I would like to know what are the medicines (generally popped in by the general mass for fever, cold, stomach ache etc) which epilepsy patients should avoid?

Hello,

With all the new and ever increasing numbers of remedies and treatments that are on the market and coming to market including a whole variety of homeopathic and natural supplements that were never things we worried about patients taking before it is virtually impossible to give you a list of things not to take.

It is much safer and foolproof to simply learn the habit (if you are epileptic) to always check with your doctor or pharmacist when considering taking anything which is over the counter or prescription while taking anti-epileptics medicines.

In that way, you can guarantee never missing a potentially bad reaction for EVERY DRUG you intend to take for any reason. That I believe, a much more efficient and guaranteed way of never having to worry about ingesting the wrong thing.

And that is exactly the advice I give all of my patients when I educate them for the first time on their new epilepsy drugs.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Dariush Saghafi
