What Effects Does Prednisolone Cause On Glaucoma In Eyes?
My partner has glaucoma and has been prescribed prednisolone for an unrelated skin condition which is yet to be diagnosed pending results from recent blood tests. The dosage is 25mg over an initial one week period only. She administers azarga eye drops twice a day. I m very concerned about the effects the prednisolone may have on her already problematic eyes. The skin condition she is being tested for, amongst other things is lupus or vasculitis. She had a triple brain heamorrage last year which occurred upon her mothers sudden death. Our cat died suddenly last week which triggered the skin rash/ extremely itchy hives. Help me please as I am totally stressed about her.
I reviewed your history. It seems from the history that your partner is having glaucoma and she is prescribed with prednisolone. Prednisolone is a steroid and in steroid responders it will increase the intraocular pressure and worsen the glaucoma. Hence the real need for steroids should be considered, if steroids are required then monitoring the intraocular pressure regularly during the treatment period has to be done.
Hope this is helpful to you. Thank you
