What Does This MRI Report Mean?

female, age 61, MRI: Cervical spondylosis with extensive bilateral foraminal stenosis causing impingment of the nerve roots more on left side compared to right; Osteophytic encroachment on the spinal canal with central acquitted spinal canal stenosis and encroachment on the spinal cord, without any detectable changes of myelopathy in the spinal cord.

Hi,
Thanks for writing in.

There are degenerative changes seen in the small bones of the neck spine. This is also causing pressure effects on the nerve roots which exit through small holes between these bones. Also there is pressure on the spinal cord posteriorly. The spinal cord remains safe though. You may need to do physiotherapy and take pain medications if in severe discomfort.
