What Does The Nerve Root In Mri Report Indicate?
My MRI results says L5-S1 Disc degeneration with some circumferential disc bulging greatest in the midline exacerbated by hypertrophic facet anthropathy right greater than left resulting in mild central canal stenosis but moderate to moderately severe lateral recess stenosis with right S1 nerve root impingement and moderately severe right and moderate left foraminal stenosis with probable right L5 root impingement in the foramen. I know my back hurts a lot but what in the world does this mean in lay men terms?

In the spine we have vertebrae in between interspersed with the intervertebral discs. There is a spinal cord running just behind the vertebrae and at each vertebra level the spinal cord gives rise to 2 (Left & Right) spinal nerves which come out at that level. The intervertebral discs due to aging bulge posteriorly and compress the nerves which come out causing back pain.
In your case, you have disc bulge between the L5 and S1 vertebrae which is causing compression of the right L5 and S1 nerve roots. This should be causing you pain in the back and tingling sensations in your right leg as well. Depending on the grade and the severity of your symptoms you can either try to manage it conservatively using physiotherapy or undergo a surgery to remove the protruded disc.
