What Does Fluctuation In Heart Rate When On BP Medication Indicate?

I am a 72 yr. old man . I take med s for blood pressure. My pressure is running 120 s over 65 to 70. my heart rate is running in the low 60 s and have even been down in the high 50 s. I walk three miles a day on my tread mill. sometimes when I am just sitting around doing nothing, my heart will act funny for about 2 or 3 second then I will feel light headed like I m going to pass out for a few seconds. Should I cut back on my med s? I don t recall ever having a heart rate above 100 since I started walking.

Hello,

If you are on betablockers and calcium channel blockers then apart from controlling the BP there will be slowing of heart rate also. If the rate is around 65 to 70 / minute it is quite fine. At rest it may still be slower. Since you are walking regularly that also helps heart activity and at rest then rate is a bit slower. If there is any other problem like change of rhythm that is irregular rate then please do consult your cardiologist early.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
