What Does Absence Of Fetal Heart Beat In An Ultrasound Scanning During Pregnancy Indicate?

I was wondering if it is a problem for a lady to be carrying a baby 7 months and the other Drs cant hear a heart beat anymore and they keep telling her to come back for tests every two weeks and don't give her any definate answers? She feels sick about the whole thing and physically sick too.

Hi,
I understand your concern.
Sometimes it's possible in 7 months pregnancy to miss fetal heart sounds while physical/per abdominal examination( thick maternal abdominal wall, increased intestinal sounds). In such case repeated examination is needed.
But in USG scanning ,absent heart beats diagnosed by two expert sonologists, definetely indicates fetal loss.
I would suggest you to advise the lady in question to take second expert & stick to the advise given.
Thanks.
