What Could The Bubble On The Ear Drum During An Infection?

My son was diagonsed with an acute ear infection today, and the doctor said that she could see a "bubble" on his ear drum. after prescribing azithromycin for the ear infection, she asked to see my son again in one week to see what was going on with the "bubble" on his ear drum. what is this "bubble" she is talking about? is this something that is present with all ear infections?

Hi,Looking at description of bubble on ear drum, given by your doctor, it can occur in case of an acute ear infection in following ways:

1) The ear drum may bulge in some case of acute middle ear infection giving the picture of bubble on ear drum. In this case it may lead to mild rupture and lead to ear discharge.

2) Bubble on the ear drum - it occurs in Bullous Myringitis - It is a viral infection of ear drum.

3) Bubbles inside your ear drum - in case of Secretory otitis Media - In infection of middle ear, secretions may collect behind the ear drum giving a picture of bubbles under ear drum.
