What Could Result In Pain And Discomfort In Knee After Experiencing Popping Sensation?

I am a 17 year old male. I have had problems with my right knee before such as pain and discomfort. But for the last about year and a half I have had a problem with my knee. Everytime I sit on my right thigh or sit "criss cross" my knee locks up. It leaves me in a ridiculous amount of pain. I usually just lay back and catch my breath. My knee has to stay at a certain angle while it is locked for me not to feel pain. Eventually I fight through the pain and straighten my leg slowly until my knee pops and is back to normal. Ever time this happens it just stays sore for a couple hours after it pops back into place. Do you know what causes this and should I get it checked out by a doctor?

Hi,

I have gone through your query.
As you have explained that there is popping in knee on bending and problem of lock knee. This may be due to following reasons:
Torn ligament may be anterior(ACL) or medical cruciate (MCL).
Tear of menisci(rubbery cushions of the knee joint)
Knee cap dislocation.

I suggest you to see a local orthopedic doctor for investigations like X-ray and MRI and management thereafter.
Don't ignore it as it may cause many complications later.

Do consider a positive feedback as a credit to my work. Let me know if you have any further questions.
