What Could Cause Severe Mucus Drainage, In A Child, After Undergoing Surgical Removal Of Tonsils And Adenoids?

Hi, I have a question. My 6 year old son got his tonsils and adenoids out and tubes placed in both ears on July 3, 2013. It is now 6 months since the surgery. He's always had a stuffy nose for as long as I can remember. Doctors think it's really bad allergies. After the surgery his nose has gotten worse and he now has a ton of mucus draining down his throat. He gags on it daily and can't get it out of his throat. He can barely breath through his nose, sometimes he can't at all. I feel as if the tonsils and adenoids being removed were unnecessary. Doctor said they were enlarged, but he has had more problems since then. Now, his ear nose and throat specialist has him on 50mg per spray fluticasone propionate daily and since that isn't working he suggested another surgery to shave something down in his nasal passage (can't remember what it's called.) I'm afraid that's also unnecessary. Other doctors have said his sinuses are super red and swollen. I just don't know what to do for him anymore. So my question is, is all this mucus normal after the surgery?

hello. please dont worry, the enlarged adenoids must have been preventing the mucus drainage into the throat, however once they have been removed, the mucus is going into the throat. it is likely that the mucus is due to an uncontrolled allergy and if he is unable to breath , then he may actually need another surgery to shave off the extra tissue inside his nose. please remember that this surgery is only temporary and will not control his allergy, it will just help him to breathe through his nose better. please follow your ENT doctors advice. thanks
