What Could Cause Hot Spells?

Hi, I've been having hot spells where my face gets red and I start sweating uncontrollably and very uncomfortably. Took my temp. while it was just happening and it read 97.8. I'm 41, female, weight okay (could be better) and take thyroid medication for low thyroid. My thyroid levels fall into the low but normal range. But why SO hot and low body temp.? Thank You, Annie

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi there,

The hot spells you are facing might be related to:
- overdose of thyroid medication
- peri/menopause hormonal changes

I advise to:
- take your thyroid medications as prescribed by your doctor without changing dose on your own.
- measure your pituitary/adrenal hormones levels (hormonal balance) in order to take further specific measures in time.
- avoid coffee/energetic drinks
- monitor your blood pressure, record the results and pass them to your doctor

All the best!
Dr.Albana
