Hi,I am Dr. Santosh Kondekar (Pediatrician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Vomiting, rashes On Cheeks And Uncontrollable Eating?
Hello. I have a 17month old daughter who has been vomitting off and on for about 5 months. She still continues to gain weight though. The other symptoms I have noticed are a rash on her cheeks and uncontrollable eating. She will eat more than a adult at dinner and within 15 minutes she wants to eat again. She does this all day long. We have see a gastroenterologist and the findings so far have been positive occult blood (two out of six tests have been positive) an extended stomach and atonic stomach. Also 1+ for a malubsorption. The doctor now thinks she should do a endoscopy and a colonoscopy. I do not feel comfortable putting her through this. I would like a second opinion on what we could be dealing with here. Thank you!
There is one important cause for overeating that should be considered: it is a genetic problem that occurs very rarely. Please take her to a pediatrician and mention this to him/her and ask them to do a genetic test to rule it out. This condition initially causes under-eating, but later, as the child grows, they overeat and tend to become obese. This condition is called Prader-Willi syndrome.
This is an off-the-cuff suggestion, and I may be wrong, but there is no harm in ruling this out.
