What Causes Variations In Heart Rates After Step Ups?

For human biology i'm doing an investigation of cardiovascular health in teenagers. We got 2 active and 2 inactive teenagers to do 10 step ups and we recorded their heart rate after. Both active teenagers had a much lower resting heart rate but had a much higher increase in their heart rate after the step ups than the inactive teens. Any explanations
