What Causes Vaginal Spotting And Mild Pain After The Intercourse?

I am almost 24 years old. I have been seeing my boyfriend since October 2010. I have had sex "one time" before having sex with him, which was over 2 years before him (we used protection, and it literally only happened once). Also, had my first PAP before dating him and everything was normal and fine. I was using protection with him for the first couple of months. The first few times we had sex it was kinda rough and i would spot bleeding but it would only be right after sex. When i went to the bathroom to clean up thats where i would notice a bit of blood. This was with a condom too. We had an accident or two involving a broken condem. This lead to an expensive Plan B pill. I went back to the doctor and got on birth control.I have been on the pill for 2 months now. I have have had my period the last week normal because it was during the sugar pills. Yesturday was the first blue pill after my period pills. So naturally I was ready to have sex thinking i was done bleeding. We dont use condoms anymore, and we had gotten a little crazy in a weird position him straight up and me sideways. After a minute or so in this position i got this sharp painful pain so i made him stop immediatly and we switched to a different position . I allow him to ejaculate inside of me since i am on the pill and it doesnt really bother me. I went to the bathroom afterwards to clean up and noticed blood and of coarse semen. There are no cuts visible to me, so i am assuming it was that weird angle we were in and deep penitration must have torn my internal wall. Is the semen going to affect watever cut or tear is up there? I also wore a panty liner today becasue i still felt like i was leaking. I didnt have time to hop into the shower this morning. I am still lightly bleeding this afternoon. My secreations are slightly discolored and smells a bit. I am not really in any pain just the normal light soreness from a long night of fun. Should I be worried at all?? Or if i just take it easy and keep myself clean will it just pass and work itself out.

Hello,

Firstly, please do not stress. Hormone contraception can give rise to menstrual irregularities during the initial months, but, not post-coital bleeding. Bleeding during and after intercourse can be due to rough intercourse, local causes like the erosion of the cervix, infections of the cervix and vagina, and polyps.

A proper clinical evaluation would be the best thing to do in this situation as the spotting is happening with every intercourse. The discoloration due to altered blood and together with seminal fluid, there is an odor. Maintenance of personal hygiene is also important.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Dr. Shanti Vennam
