What Causes Vaginal Bleeding And Stomach Cramps With History Of Miscarriages?

History: 5 miscarriages, preterm birth, heart-shaped uterus and irregular light periods. Last month I think I had another miscarriage. I felt all the normal feelings of a pregnancy, but bled shortly after period was suppose to start. This month I had cramps middle of the month that thought was just from exercising. However, today I started bleeding dark blood. While standing, I felt a gush of fluid. Went into the bathroom and blood soaked my underwear and pad. Now I m having intense cramps and still bleeding pretty hard. Any clue if this is some thing normal or should I go get checked? I didn t go to the doctor after the last miscarriage.

Hello there, thanks for writing in. I would have wished to know some more about your history, like if you had tested for pregnancy or not and the time interval between bleeding episodes. However, as you haven't mentioned required information in detail, I would like to think of two possible conditions.
1. Your irregular periods could be because of polycystic ovarian syndrome and this bleeding could be due to another episode of the same.
2. It could be due to miscarriage.
What I suggest now is, you take up urine pregnancy check to look for pregnancy. If it does come out positive, you need to meet your OB/GYN for further testing ( an ultrasound scan ) to see if the miscarriage is complete or threatened. Based on scan findings, your doctor will be able to advice you further treatment.
If the pregnancy test is negative, I would still suggest you to get evaluated for endometrial hyperplasia ( thickening of uterine lining ) as it is common in women with irregular periods and also to rule out other causes of bleeding like polyp, or cervical ( neck of the womb ) bleeding though the latter usually causes spotting. Also, looks like your heart shaped uterus ( bicornuate uterus or separate ) may need surgical correction as it has resulted in many miscarriages and you may expect a good pregnancy outcome with surgical correction.
Hope this information helps. Take care.
