What Causes Thick Vaginal Discharge And Pain During Intercourse With Hypothyroidism?

Hello doctors,

My name is Becca, I'm a 25 year old lymphoma survivor with Hypothyroidism due to radiation treatments. Lately my symptoms have been getting worse and I'm seeing a NP and trying to fix my synthetic hormone levels.
The real problem I'm having, I'm wondering if it is connected to my hypothyroidism: for about a year, I have had on and off pain during intercourse and thick, white, odorless discharge during as well. I have been to two family doctors and three obgyns. Everything is fine down there, no infections, no stds, no abnormal test results. These symptoms are so new and frequent that it is really terrifying to me. I am not any other explication then stress or an imbalance caused by my hypothyroidism. Any alternative info or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

OB & GYN Specialist 's  Response
Hello,

Yes, thyroid disease is due to week auto immune disease, candida as vaginal thrush growth can be there. Your immune system plays an important role in controlling growth of fungus, though there is no direct connection between the two. Yeast or candida is a part of our normal flora that reside harmoniously with other organisms in our gut, reproductive tract, mouth and skin. In people of normal immune system, this candida is harmless. When the change in the balance of flora occurs, for e.g., after antibiotics, our immune system gets weakened. In chronic stress, candida may overgrow, and cause candidiasis.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Sunita Kothari, OB & GYN Specialist
