What Causes Swollen Lymph Under My Left Jaw After Mirena IUD?

I recently had the Mirena IUD inserted on April 25th, 2014. I currently have swollen lymph under my left jaw and on my neck. Could this be a symptom of the IUD? I also have spotting, but I was told that could last several months. I am going back in for an ultrasound on June 9th to have a follow up and insure the Mirena is still in place as it should be.

Hello,

The swollen lymph node on your jaw is not related to the IUD and I could be due to something else. Most probably it may be due to some decayed tooth or pharyngitis which are the common cause for enlarged neck lymph nodes. You can take a short course of antibiotics for five days and generally it will settle by antibiotics. You can check whether the IUD in place or not even though it has to no relation with the swollen lymph nodes.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
