Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Swelling In Ankles, Elevated Heart Rate And Fatigue?
my ankles are swelling pretty bad and I have been feeling kind of tired lately. A couple of weeks ago, I was working out and my heart started to race and I checked my heart rate and it was at 199 and it took it about 15 minutes to go down. Any idea what could be the issue? Thanks.
There are many reasons for swelling in the ankles and elevated heart rate and fatigue but the most likely one is a heart problem. You will need to have your heart checked, your blood pressure and pulse and also possibly have an ECG and a heart ultrasound. A CBC to rule out anemia may be indicated as well and possibly some other tests to check the liver function and kidney function. Rarely, the thyroid gland, if it is not working properly, may cause similar symptoms and TSH and FT4 may need to be checked to rule these out.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Antoneta Zotaj, General & Family Physician
