Hello,
If you have been on steroid medications for your colitis or asthma then that is a likely cause for your weight gain. Steroids like prednisone are often used to decrease the inflammation in asthma or inflammatory bowel diseases like Crohn's disease and they can cause sudden increase in weight that can be quite dramatic. if you have not been on steroids then ask your doctor to check a thyroid test as low thyroid conditions can also cause weight gain.
