Does Withdrawal From Avil Injection Cause Nasal Dripping?

Dear Doctor, My father is asthma and allergy patient. He used to smoke for 22 years and left away. He is of 53 weight and height is normal. He used to take Neolin SA for allergy cure. Now this tablet is not available here in Pakistan since 6,7 years. At start of these 6,7 years he used to take Ventolin inhaler but that did not worked as of his findings. After that he started using Avil Injection (2CC) IV daily. For 3 and more years that kept on working and all was running good. But now since 2,3 years his addiction is getting sever. Initially he increased doze to 2 Inj daily and now it even exceeds 8 Inj/day. Whenever we ask him to quit he says that nasal dripping exceeds and creates heavy trouble to him. He is a businessman; before he used to be quick and active but now matter is reversed. Now he takes things easy, at times he gets angry and start shivering. Please help in this matter. His HB is normal, Renal Parameters are good. 1 more thing, some times i felt alcohol smell in his clothes which is only thing above all. I am unable to understand this phenomenon. Even he is not willing to go doctor for treatment, Areeb

Hi,

Nasal dripping is frequently associated with asthma in most of the patients so its not the withdrawal effect of Avil. Additionally, Avil does cause some sedation your father is taking way more than the normal dose of Avil which is causing side effects. Normal dose should be less than 6 injections per day (2ml x 6).

He might be having other addictions as felt alcohol smell, for that he needs to talk to psychologist or therapist. There are various options of online in video or audio consultation if he doesn't want to go to doctor for treatment, they might help you in this case.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
