What Causes Sore Throat And Coughing After An Upper Endoscopy?

I had an upper endoscopy six weeks ago. For two days I had a very sore throat, then began coughing. The coughing is getting worse, even after comleting a five day regime of antibiotics prescribed by my doctor (not the gastroenterologist who performed endoscopy; it takes too long to get in to see him). The only thing that gives me temporary relief is Robitussin DM and cough drops. I can t sleep nights because coughing is so bad; it sounds almost like barking. I fall asleep with cough drops after awhile. What to do next?

Hi,

Noted your history of sore throat and coughing after an upper GI Endoscopy, seen a Doctor, prescribed with 5 day antibiotic, coughing is too much at night like barking.
I would advise you the following in such a situation:
Consult your Doctor again and insist for proper clinical examination of throat and auscultation of chest to see for any signs of asthma as there would be a typical sound on auscultation.
X-ray of chest.
Phlegm if positive to be checked at lab.
Tests of blood for CBC, thyroid function, diabetes and so on.
If required get a referral for ENT Specialist as he would examine the throat.
All these lead to a proper diagnosis so that an appropriate and specific treatment can be done.
Sometimes cardiac problems may need to be ruled out.
