What Causes Severe Rashes On Face/head/chest And Blood In Urine?

my four month old grandson has a severe rash on his face, head, chest and patches on other parts of his body. He has had the rash for most of his four months. My daughter and her husband have taken him to the emergency room, pediatric, family, and dermatologist doctors.their baby has been given steroids, creams, and antibiotics. One doctor recommended that they put the baby in a wet sleeper than cover it with a dry one. My grandson has also had blood in his urine at times. The red, crusty rash is sometimes weepy and was once tested as infection. As a nursing mom, my daughter has eliminated dairy products from her diet. When nothing changed, she began using formula only for their baby. My grandson continues to cry due to the severe itching. Despite the baby mittens my daughter uses to cover his hands, he has managed to rub off most of his hair. Another remedy which she has tried is giving my grandson frequent baths which seem to relieve his pain temporarily. Others have suggested altitude and the long winter months in Wyoming are a factor. Whatever the cause it is very difficult to see the consistent pain in the "little ones" eyes. He always looks so sad.

Pediatrician, Pulmonology 's  Response
From your description it appears to be an eczematoid rash which can be related to allergic symptoms. Allergies tend to be transmitted genetically and this is therefore more likely if you have members of the family with allergies. Other possible causes include problems with the immune system. I would recommend that he be screened to confirm that his immune system is normal, especially if he has had infections such as pneumonia, ear infections or prolonged diarrhea.
