What Causes Severe Pain In Calf Muscle, leg And Back?

Hi, My husband has been in pain for 6 weeks. He has been to the med. dr. twice and the chiropractor 3 times in the last week or so. His symptoms started out as right buttocks, leg and calf pain kinda like sciatic nerve. His pain is almost unbearable now with his right three last toes and calf muscle being numb and severe pain behind the knee. This pain does radiate up and down. Now his left leg is swollen. He is having a MRI in the morning. What could be the causes of this?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
From history it seems that he might be having degenerative changes in his Lumbo-sacral spines giving pressure on the nerves and irritation on the nerves causing Sciatica pain.
As he is going for MRI,report will show degree and severity of osteoartheritis of spines.
After report orthopedic surgeon will go for plan of treatment, conservative or surgical line of treatment.
Avoid weight lifting, use hard bed for sleeping.
Ok and take care.
