What Causes Profuse Sweating In A Post Menopausal Woman?
I am a post menopausal woman of age 51. Menopause happened when I was 47. I live in Muscat, Oman A few times a day (3-4 times) I feel warm and quite profusely sweat and need to stand in front of the air conditioner to cool off. Each such episode lasts a few minutes and then I am OK. Can anything major be wrong? I am worried.
What you are experiencing are hot flashes that are very common during menopause. Hormonal imbalance in the menopausal phase can cause this. You can change some lifestyle habits to control it.
Do not use any spicy or acidic foods. Cut back your alcohol and caffeine intake, if there is any. There must be some triggering things that can cause hot flash. Keep a diary and note when you get them and after few days, you will be able to find a pattern and triggers that cause hot flashes. Avoid those triggers.
Keep sipping iced water throughout the day. Keep some water on the nightstand so you can have it at night if needed.
Avoid warm clothing and stressful situations. Exercise regularly. You can also keep an ice pack with you to cool you down during the episode.
If nothing works and they keep worsening, you might have to consult a gynecologist and start hormone replacement therapy.
