I have gone partly deaf in one ear and its very painful what could this be? My mum has had this problem for years and a doctor said two very small bones a vibrating together that aren't meant to be and it can't be treated. Could this be genetic and i'm going to have the same problem, or could this just be an infection. Its only been 4 days but I cant bare the pain much longer. From Lauren. Aged 14
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Since its since 4 days, it is infection. For pain relieve you can take some painkiller like Ibuprofen. Antibiotics like Doxt-100, twice daily for 5 days will be helpful. You need to be examined by an ENT specialist. If you have sensitive ears avoid swimming pools for it will have a tendency to recur. If symptoms persist you will have to take audiology test.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
