What Causes Pain In The Left Carotid Artery?

Periodically I get pain in my left carotid artery that lasts a minute or so. Yesterday it happened again and this time I felt sharp pain behind my left eye for a few seconds. Should I be concerned? I'm a 50 year old female, fairly active and not overweight.

I understood your health concerns and feel Concerned about them.
You seem to be suffering from following possibilities-
Carotid Artery Stenosis with atherosclerosis.
Cartotid Artery Dissection with Hypertension needs to be ruled out.
Do's suggested-
Carotid USG scan-
Carotid Angiography
CT Angiography
MRAngiography.
Get done above radiological tests-in stages which would fix the Carotid artery pains as discussed above.
This would resolve your health issues.
Don't be obsessed with Cancer.
Discus with doctors in your locality on urgent basis on the above lines and take care as soon as possible.
For this to verify Second opinion from another Surgeon,as suggested above,as soon as possible.

Just don't worry and be patient and co-operate with your doctors,till you verify with your attending doctors.
