What Causes Pain In Pelvic Area Post Hernia Repair?

In June of 2009 I had a left ingunel hernia repair and have been in severe pain in palvis area since the surgery. On an X-Ray I had last week it shows surgical clips. My question is whether surgical clips are left in a patient, and could this be the source of my pain.
