What Causes Swelling Of Testicles Post Hernia Repair?

My son had a hernia inguinal repair with hydrocelectomy with mesh almost 2 weeks ago. There was no swelling after the surgery but suddenly 2 days ago his testical on the same side as the hernia swelled up to the size of a tennis ball. Is this normal to not have swelling right after the surgery but then for it to show up a week & a half later. He says there is a little bit of pain in the testical as well. He is 14 years old and about 125 lbs.

Urologist 's  Response
Hello and welcome to HCM.
Well, i do share your anxiety. As an Urologist, i must advise you to take your son to the surgeon, as he can examine the swelling you're describing.
Such a swelling may be an inflammatory swelling, which will subside with treatment and keeping the scrotal area well supported in an upward direction.
In certain cases, there may be a fluid or blood collection beneath the skin surface, which may need a different type of treatment.
Hope your doubt is cleared and feel free to contact me anytime by name.
