What Causes Numbness Just Above Belly Button?

I recently began experiencing a feeling of numbness just above and to the right of my belly button. It happens when I move a certain way and sometimes when I cough. I had a hysterectomy about 6 years ago and there was an incision nearby. I ve been lifting weights recently as well. I don t feel a lump or bulge. Can this be a sign of a hernia? I am a 36-year-old female.

Hello ma'am and welcome.

An incisional hernia does need to be ruled out especially with all the given information, but this can be done only by a medical practitioner so if you could visit your doctor it would greatly help. An ultrasound examination of the region along with the physical examination would help in looking into some other possible causes as well.

In the meantime, please do avoid lifting weights, straining while passing your bowels, etc.

Best wishes.
