What Causes Missed Periods, Hot Flashes, Weight Gain And Mood Swings?
I have not had a menstrual period for 15 months. I was having signs of menopause such as hot flashes, weight gain, and mood swings. My doctor wanted to do blood work to check my estrogen level because of being young. I am 47. The results came in as not being in a pre menopausal state. All my other blood work all came back good and so did my pap smear. Is there any concerns?
Hello, Thanks for trusting us with your health concern. If a complete hormone profile including thyroid profile, serum Prolactin was done and reported normal, you are not in the perimenopause and this is not the cause for the absent period.A sonogram of the pelvis, preferably in the trans-vaginal route must be done to look for any local causes like cysts of the ovary. Antral follicular count is another way to see if there is any deficit in the follicles resulting in amenorrhea. Stress, sudden weight changes, certain infections and medications also can cause such a delay and have to be excluded. Please try to maintain a healthy diet, proper weight and regular exercise. Your symptoms suggest hormone imbalance. Withdrawal using progesterone can be tried if deemed possible to get some relief and to reset the cycles on track. Please do not worry, such things are common at this age. Hope this helps.
