What Causes Missed Periods After Taking Emergency Contraceptive Next Choice?

Hello,

Back on December 31st i took the emergency contraceptive next choice. Several weeks later I was awaiting my menstrual but it has not come in almost two months. The last time was December 23rd. However, I have taken 4 pregnancy test and they have all been negative. I was wondering if the next choice could have messed up the cycle?

Hi,
Emergency contraception does derail the hormonal balance of the body and causes either breakthrough bleeds or delayed cycles. However, if the expected period is delayed by more than ten days, you should see a specialist for proper evaluation, get a trans-vaginal sonogram and a blood test for pregnancy confirmation/exclusion for planning further management. If pregnancy is excluded, hormones may be given to induce a period. In future, please remember that emergency contraception should be rarely used, only once or twice a year. Hope this helps.

Hello ma'am and welcome.

One common side effect of all contraceptive pills is a hormonal imbalance. So ppease do not worry as in most cases this temporary imbalance should restore to norm in a month or so. If it does not then report to a doctor.

Hope this helps.

Best wishes.
