What Causes Missed Periods After Coming Off From Depo Shot?

I have been on the depo jab for nearly 2 years. I stopped having it because me and my boyfriend decided to try for another baby. I was last due for my jab on 2nd January 2014. It has been 8 months and still no period I have had all the signs of a period but nothing. I want to my GP and told her what my situation was. She sent me for blood tests to check my hormone levels. I got my results and all my hormone levels are normal. She then prescribed me Utovlan Norethisterone to kick start my periods. I have been taking them now for nearly a week. I am to take 3 tablets a day for 10 days. Do these tablets help you to ovulate? Also if my hormone levels are normal does that mean I am ovulating even though i have not had a period?

I understand your concern and will do my best to answer your question.
Depo is unpredictable. Some people metabolize it very quickly and it "wears off" in three months. Some people metabolize it very slowly and it can be 18 months after an injection before they start ovulating again. No one knows why and no one has a better explanation than "everyone's metabolism is different." You aren't alone and probably nothing is wrong: 8 months without a period after Depo is still usually normal and healthy and things will probably return to normal in the next 4-6 months. Norethindrone can be used to trigger withdrawal bleeding to make sure everything is ok, but I am sorry, there is nothing that can get the Depo out of your system any faster. Try to be patient and it will eventually wear off. Especially if your hormone levels (thyroid and pituitary gland usually) are normal, there is likely nothing wrong and your ovulation cycles and fertility will probably return in a few months.
Good luck nd I hope that helped
