What Causes Large Thyroid Goiter And Enlarged Neck Muscles In Children?

The pediatrician recently advised me that my 8 year old daughter has a very large thyroid goiter and enlarged neck muscles. He wants me to take her in for numerous tests asap. I myself, along with many other adult cousins have hypothyroidism; however, we all had adult on-set; e.g., post-partum. Please explain what may be going on with my child.

Hi, dear
I have gone through your question. I can understand your concern.

She has enlarged thyroid. It can be due to colloid goitre, multi nodular goitre, some cystic lesion or some tumour.
She should go for USG neck, T3, T4 and TSH level and FNAC thyroid according to need. It will give you exact diagnosis.

Then she should take treatment accordingly.
