What Causes Irregular Dark Brown Vaginal Bleeding?

For the past three months my cycle has changed. I hardly cramp anymore and the color and amount of blood has changed. Now its like I m spotting instead of having an actual period. It also lasts maybe three days sometimes just two. The color has changed from a bright red to a dark brown. Is this normal, I m only 31 and I have no clue what this change means.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Such menstrual problem is mostly due to hormonal imbalance affecting the menses.
- It can be most of the times corrected by three cyclical courses of hormones
- If not relieved, a few tests to know about thyroid, ovarian problems are needed. Blood tests/USG scanning are performed to know the basic cause followed by specific treatment.

Hope I have answered your query.
Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
