What Causes Intermittent Fever, Vomiting And Stomach Ache With Swollen Gums?

I had to rush my 4 year old daughter yesterday to a doctor for stomachache, fever, vomiting and for some reason, she had swollen gums.. in the last 6 months, this has happened 3 times already, same symptoms except for the swollen gums. she was given different antibiotics, co-amoxiclav and ampicillin. blood test reveals an abnormal wbc count but normal urine test. they think it might be uti.

Hi...by what you quote I feel that it could be recurrent viral illness. Swelling of gums could be due to vitamin C deficiency or multivitamin deficiency. I will suggest you how a viral illness behaves so that you will be more confident next time -

Fever of few days without any localizing signs could as well a viral illness. Usually rather than fever, what is more important is the activity of the child, in between 2 fever episodes on the same day. If the kid is active and playing around when there is no fever, it is probably viral illness and it doesn't require antibiotics at all. Once viral fever comes it will there for 4-7 days. So do not worry about duration if the kid is active.
