What Causes Hyperinflation?

Hi, I recently had a chest xray for a suspected broken rib and the results came back saying I am slightly hyperinflated suggestive of mild air trapping. During the xray i was asked to inhale as much air as possible could this show up as hyperinflation? I use to smoke during high school and then for about 2 years after. Im now 29 have always been active, 6ft tall 84 kg nad generally have a good diet.

Hi welcome to HCM...

I can understand you have many question in mind regarding hyperinflation...

But see inhalation during chest x ray as you are advised doesn't lead hyperinflation infact it is necessary for better x ray film..

Anyway here hyperinflation should be investigated through spirometry examination as well as clinical correlation...

As you have smoking habit emphysema changes has to be searched for by above advised spirometry as well as your auscultation and examination ...

Avoid smoking if you can get rid from that ..

Take care ....

Advise : consult pulmonologist for examination ...
