What Causes High Creatinine Level In Blood?

My son is 15 years old and his blood Creatinine level was in March 1.0 and in April was 1.2. No history of Diabetes, kidney problems in the family. He is a healthy boy. Today he just went for another BMP and we'll get the results next week. What could be the cause of a high Creatinine level in his case?

Hi there,
Good to see that you are taking good care of you son, and care about him.
Please understand that creatinine is a waste product that is produced during muscle contraction. Which has a normal level of 0.6 to 1.2 for men. Creatinine is removed from the body by kidney, rise of creatinine from 1.0 to 1.2 doesn't always mean that he has kidney problem.
Creatinine can rise because of other reasons also, you can easily get that list in the internet. Few things That i can list are:
1. More of Non-veg in the diet rises Creatinine level
2. Drinking less amount of water.
3. Doing exercise one or two days before the test.
4. Less of sleep
5. Some of the medication that can cause abnormal rise are Vitamin C, Phenytoin, Diuretics, Cimetidine, some antibiotic.
But still you need not to worry much, if he is a healthy young boy, then his kidneys will take care of the raised creatinine.
Thank you
Hope your kid stays healthy
