What Causes Eye Pain And Double Vision?

My left eye hurts behind the eyeball, and on top of it as well. I don t have a foreign object or injury. I wore an eye patch last night to give it some rest, but the vision in my right eye is very blurry, and sometimes even double vision. Anti-inflammatory OTC haven t helped. Any ideas?

Ophthalmologist 's  Response
Hello
Double vision with eye pain indicates painful ophthalmoplegia. This is because of problems involving the nerves which supply the extraocular muscles like oculomotor nerve, trochlear nerve and abducent nerve.
This requires evaluation by your ophthalmologist to find out the underlying cause and treatment accordingly.

Thank you
