What Causes Eye Irritation In Infants?

hi, my 6month old baby has been rubbing her eyes in the last 2 days. they are not red, only slightly around the edges, which i think could be from the rubbing.i ve tried to give them a wipe with cool boiled water and still she keeps rubbing them. could it be an eye infection, or hay fever?

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi,

In eye infection, we expect some redness (of balls), discharge and sticky lids. As no such symptoms, infection is less likely. This might suggest ocular allergy or seborrheic dermatitis. Just try a lubricant eye drops (hydroxy methyl cellulose), 2 drops thrice daily for 5 days. If no relief, kindly get him examined with doctor.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Muhammed Aslam T. K., Pediatrician
