Pathologist and Microbiologist 's  Response
Hello! I am a pathologist and my main suspicion is some parasitic infection. particularly since the doctor is in Africa, I would consider trypanosomia infection first.
The illness could be investigated primarily by a complete blood count and peripheral smear examination. After that, maybe an MRI could be considered.
