What Causes Diarrhea With All Tests Negative?

I am a healthy 70 yr. old female and for the past week, I ve had diarrhea and loose stools. Went to the doctor - he tested for 4 different things all of which were negative. He said to manage the symptoms and expect a gradual recovery over 1-3 weeks. What could cause this? No fever, no vomiting, no blood or dark stool, but do have a yellow mucus. Thanks.

Hi.
Thanks for your query.
Noted the history of 70 years develops diarrhea for the past week - tests negative - Doctor said to manage the symptoms and may last for 1-3 weeks, wants to know the cause, also has yellow mucus.
The most probable cause may be stomach bug/flu/viral infection.
Another possibilities can be rare infections like aflatoxins and so many other things that the routine tests may not detect.
Hence I would suggest you the following:
- Maintain hydration and electrolyte balance.
- Try Activated charcoal tablets.
- Trial course of an antibiotic and metronidazole.
- Stop foods and beverages that increase the problems.
