Hello Thyroid problems can lead to a variety of eye problems and these group of diseases are called as thyroid ophthalmoplathy. In thyroid ophthalmopathy the eye involvement shows proptosis, decreased blinking of the eyes, dryness of the eyes.... But your symptoms of blurred vision to read the news paper indicates age related presbyopia. This requires correction by use of near vision glasses. Hence I advice you to consult your doctor for examination and treatment accordingly.
Thank you
